Hello once again, ghouls and ghastlies! It's that time of year for All Hallow's Tales Literature Contest, our annual celebration of all things spooky! This year marks the THIRTEENTH year of the AHT contest, a headstone...er,
milestone worth celebrating! With that in mind, the theme this year is the ill-luck number itself: THIRTEEN. Thirteen ghosts. Thirteen tentacles. Thirteen stab wounds. Thirteenth birthday. Thirteen graves. Thirteen locks on the basement door. What does the number mean and what does it represent? That's entirely up to you! So dip your quill into the reddest of ink and tell us a story. Make it creepy, kids. ,, The RulesIf you've participated in this contest in the past, we're changing things up a bit this time around, so pay special attention! This year, the contest is open to
PROSE ENTRIES ONLY with a
maximum length of
1,313 words. One entry per person, please. Entries even ONE WORD longer than the maximum wordcount will not be accepted.
Entries should feature the number thirteen (13) as a central element in the story. What the number means and how you use it are up to you, but make sure your story is Halloween appropriate! When you have completed your story, save it as a Literature deviation (no journals) and send a note to @Memnalar with a link to your entry, and
AHT Contest Entry in the subject line. He will then save it to an Entry Gallery. Please be aware that your entry is fair game for judging as soon as it is placed in the Entry Gallery, so make sure it's good to go!On a similar note, your entry will not be collected or judged unless you send a note to @Memnalar with a link to it. Simply tagging him in your entry's comments won't do the trick. Open to original fiction only, no fan-fiction. Entries musts be new pieces written for this contest, no previous work accepted. Any entry receiving a Daily Deviation or other major feature before winners are announced will be disqualified.
The contest is open to entries starting TODAY, September 26. The contest closes to entries at 12:01 am on October 25, 2021, Central Daylight Time (CDT). Winners will be announced on or by October 31.,,, JudgingThe judges for the contest will be myself and several other lovely volunteers that I've managed to dig up, so please mind the open graves.
Judges:@neurotype @GDeyke @BATTLEFAIRIES @Memnalar Entries will be judged based on how well the theme is used, how well the entry is written, and how "Halloween" it is. We are looking for entries that are dark, scary, spooky, chilling, creepy, suspenseful, and even funny. Halloween, above all, should be FUN, so your entry should be fun to read. ,, PrizesWe welcome prize donations! Points, Core memberships, fragments/badges, critiques, original artwork, old bones you've got stuffed in the closet, we'll take almost anything you've got. Llamas, follows and faves not accepted as prizes. To donate prizes, just send a note to @Memnalar and let him know what you'd like to donate.
